The G1000 PFD/MFD has two USB ports, throughout this guide we will be referring to port #1 as the port closest to the edge of the unit as shown in the image below.

Please follow the steps below to update the G1000 firmware.

Download the firmware uploader utility software

  • For Windows, download Xloader
  • For Mac, download Hex Uploader
  • For Mac, download and unzip the Arduino IDE from HERE. Note it MUST be placed in your Applications folder when extracted.

Download the required firmware files

Upload the new firmware (Windows)

  1. Open the XLoader app, and set the ‘Device’ to MEGA(ATMEGA2560)’
  2. Connect the PFD, port #1 only
  3. Under ‘Hex file’ click the button with the three dots and select the PFD#1 firmware file you downloaded above
  4. Select the ‘COM Port’ connect to the G1000, usually at the bottom of the drop down list.
  5. Leave the baud rate at 115200
  6. Click ‘Upload’
  7. The process is complete when you see text appear at the bottom of the window saying ‘.. bytes uploaded’. Note this should only take a few seconds.
  8. Disconnect the USB cable
  9. Repeat the process for the PFD#2 port remembering to select the PFD#2 firmware file.
  10. Repeat the process for the MFD

Upload the new firmware (Mac)

  1. Open the Hex Uploader app, and set the ‘Arduino Type’ to MEGA 2560
  2. Connect the PFD, port #1 only
  3. Select the ‘Serial Port’ connect to the G1000, usually called ‘usbmodem1411’
  4. Leave the baud rate at 115200
  5. Click ‘Upload a Hex file, and select the PFD#1 firmware you downloaded above
  6. The process is complete when you see text appear in the window on the right, and the words ‘avrdude done. Thank you’
  7. Disconnect the USB cable
  8. Repeat the process for the PFD#2 port remembering to select the PFD#2 firmware file.
  9. Repeat the process for the MFD

Firmware Update

If you received your G1000 PFD or MFD prior to September 1, 2019, you will need to update the firmware. Please follow the steps below to update the G1000 firmware.
